Xiaoyu Wu is a Munich-based dance artist, performer and educator. Originally from China, she has lived and worked in Europe since 2009. She recently completed her postgraduate studies in Dance Performance with mapdance at the University of Chichester, where her practice-led research explored Flow in dance improvisation.

Her practice centres on improvisation, attention and the emergence of movement. She is interested in the space between knowing and not knowing—when movement is consciously chosen and when it emerges from impulse, sensation or habit. She approaches improvisation as a way of thinking, sensing and discovering through movement.

Alongside her artistic practice, Xiaoyu teaches contemporary dance and improvisation in Munich and through an ongoing Chinese-speaking online dance community. Before transitioning into dance, she worked for over ten years in automotive R&D in Germany.
